Rehoming – Profile

History:

Binx and Boo came into our care because their owners couldn’t provide them the care they needed.

Behaviour observations on site:

When Binx and Boo first came into our care they were very frightened and hid away in their carriers. After a few days they started to relax a little bit and become tempted by some yummy treats.

Binx come out of his shell a little bit faster than Boo and became a different cat, showing staff and volunteers all of his affectionate side. As soon as their unit door opens Binx makes a friendly greeting and rubs around you for lots of gentle strokes. Eventually, Binx started to show interest in coming out onto the floor to explore further and see more of his surroundings and he now is eager to come out and play with the stick toys.

Boo has a delicate heart and is a little more weary, to begin with he would often watch the interactions with Binx and learn from him. He takes Binx’s lead which seems to give him the reassurance to explore further when being socialised. Boo is making progress daily and once he’s gained your trust he loves a fuss and will roll over for more! He is getting braver and exploring further each day.

When Binx and Boo are not being socialised they are often found both snuggled up in their bed having a nice snooze and will both groom each other.

Binx is more confident when being handled and is content being around you for some fuss and attention. Boo is quite timid and needs to be able to go at his own pace. He can be hand shy and will take a step back if he doesn’t feel comfortable enough to be handled. With slow and quiet movements, Boo feels safer to have some gentle strokes. Boo is still currently making progress with his confidence in being stroked and he will walk away once he’s had enough. Within Boo’s own time he has potential to gain more trust and feel more comfortable with being stroked.

Binx and Boo both enjoy playing. Although they can be a little nervous of loud noises, they are gaining the confidence to play with some feather stick toys which they enjoy. They are both interested in the tunnels and scratching posts on the cattery floor and enjoying coming out to sniff everything.

Binx and Boo would benefit from having their own area set up for them so that they are able to settle in nicely to their new home. Due to them being nervous of changes of environment, it would help them to feel more secure if they had somewhere they can go to hide if needed. Binx and Boo can be homed with children 10+. Binx and Boo cannot live with other cats but could live with a calm dog who is used to having cats around.
