History:
Buster was signed over into our care back in November 2021.
Behaviour observations on site:
Buster is a wonderful, playful, and intelligent young dog who will make someone a very happy, loyal companion! He is fun, extremely cute, and hugely entertaining, however he is searching for a committed owner that is willing to visit the shelter multiple times in order to build a bond with him.
Buster prefers the quieter things in life and is looking for someone to enjoy long walks in the countryside and some fun training and games. He is a fast learner and picks up new skills quickly. Buster would enjoy scent work, hoopers or herd-specific activities that will keep his brain busy and build a relationship with his human. He knows quite a few things already such as down, touch, sit and has amazing recall. He is ready for adventures, happy to jump straight in a car and travels perfectly. Buster takes things in his stride and whilst he has been assessed with dogs, he prefers to keep his distance and disengage, preferring to play with people so we feel he would be better suited as an only dog.
Due to his intelligent and sensitive nature, Buster can find some situations overwhelming and he is therefore one of our complex dogs. The behaviours that we are working on here at the centre are spinning and barking as he gets overwhelmed when he sees dogs and occasionally traffic when on a lead. Whilst he is making really good progress with this, we feel he would benefit from a quieter, semi-rural home where he won’t need to be faced with busy areas on every walk. Hiring a secure field would be beneficial in the early stages whilst you build a bond and begin to trust each other.
Buster would be best suited to someone with experience of having collies that is able to continue his training and provide the physical exercise and mental stimulation that he needs. He is both food and toy motivated and loves to learn so he’ll be a dream companion for the right person!
Medical history:
Buster is currently on medication for his skin, which in time he could possibly be weaned off, however for now any new adopters should be aware that this could also be on going. Buster is currently having regular check-ups with our vet. Buster may also need to be muzzled at the vets, please speak with the kennel staff about this.
Adopters should consider that previous medical conditions will now not be covered by insurance. Adopters are responsible for the on-going medical costs once the animal has been adopted.
Adoption fee: Minimum donation of £180.
Cannot be rehomed to Southampton.
