My Personality

Chippy is a real sweet heart and loves nothing more than to be sat on your lap having cuddles. Due to his behaviour towards other dogs however,  he is one of our ‘complex’ dogs.

Chippy is laid back in the home and settles well when he is left alone. Chippy would thrive in an environment were he has someone at home with him often and an owner with an understanding of owning a reactive dog.

Chippy is not comfortable around other dogs and will act negatively towards them if he sees them when outside on a walk. He has previously re-directed his frustration onto the handler and bitten in this situation and could potentially do this again if not managed correctly.

Chippy will lunge and bark towards dogs and becomes highly distressed and so for this reason we are asking that Chippy’s new owners do not walk him in highly dog populated areas. Chippy is very food motivated, making him easy to train and work with. He is eager to please and follows direction with ease. He has learnt so much since arriving here at the shelter and continues to learn how to act appropriately around other dogs, but this is something that will have to be continued in the home.

Chippy’s new owners should be keen to learn how to manage Chippy and have some experience with dog to dog reactivity.

Chippy is muzzle trained and is comfortable wearing one and should wear a muzzle if out in public at any time. However, we would recommend Chippy’s new family to hire out a fully enclosed field for Chippy’s exercise, this would allow him to fully relax and enjoy his walks.

Apart from Chippy’s dog reactivity, he is a gentle boy who would do very well in a quiet home with an enclosed garden to sniff around in.

Chippy is currently on a veterinary prescribed  low-calorie kibble in order to maintain his weight loss.

We reserve the right to remove a reserve at any stage of the adoption process if we believe it is in the best interest of the dog.

Cannot be rehomed to Stubbington.

Adoption fee: Minimum donation of £180.
