Rehoming – Profile
Gruffalo was signed over to us last year as his previous owner was struggling to cope with his behaviour around strangers and handling.
Behaviour observations on site:
Gruffalo is such a funny boy who is now desperate to find his forever home. He has been with us for just over a year now and we are really keen to find him his forever home. Gruffalo has quite a few behavioural concerns, which is the reason he has been with us for so long.
Gruffalo takes time to feel comfortable around new people and can take several meetings before he is ready to engage and say hello. Even when Gruffalo has formed close bonds, despite then enjoying a fuss, he still struggles with restraining (such as at the vets or groomers) and in this situation previously, has bitten.
Gruffalo is seeking an experienced home with someone who is prepared to continue to work with Gruffalo’s behaviour, with the understanding that this is a long-term issue. As Gruffalo is one of our ‘complex’ dogs, our behaviour team can support Gruffalo’s transition into his new home as much as possible. New adopters however must be willing to continue using the same methods of training we use here at the shelter.
Gruffalo can be reactive to some dogs on lead, mainly bigger dogs, however, he is doing very well with his socialisation and is learning to enjoy the company of other calm dogs when outside. For the meantime however, he will need to be the only dog in the home.
Gruffalo absolutely loves being outside and going on long walks and he walks very well on the lead. He enjoys playing with toys and loves his food!
Gruffalo would benefit from having a structured daily routine, with a safe space to eat and sleep in peace and a quiet and an enclosed garden to sniff around in.
Cannot be rehomed to Gosport
Adoption fee £180
We reserve the right to remove a reserve at any stage of the adoption process if we believe it is in the best interest of the dog.
Medical history:
Gruffalo is currently on medication to help with allergic skin disease. This is on-going and potentially long-term.
Adopters should consider that previous medical conditions will now not be covered by insurance. Adopters are responsible for the on-going medical costs once the animal has been adopted.
