Rehoming – Profile
Tec was brought into us as his owner could no longer care for him.
Behaviour observations on site:
Tec is a fantastic boy, who loves everyone he meets. He is incredibly enthusiastic (jumps up head height!) when saying hello to people, which may intimidate some. His high energy level and breed means that he is searching for a particular home with an experienced handler.
Tec is great fun to work with, and loves nothing more than engaging with his handler and learning new tricks. He is searching for a working home environment with someone who understands his breed requirements.
He is responding incredibly well to training here at the shelter, although Tec can be very vocal at certain points, which again may seem intimidating. Those that understand the breed, will know that this is a common trait for Malinois as they are a powerful guard breed. Despite Tec’s reactivity at points, he is always happy to say hello, however he continues to learn how to correctly greet people.
Tec is a strong boy, who can become overwhelmed when on lead. He needs focused, structured walks, for him to relax. Tec would benefit from having a large enclosed area to exercise in before being walked on lead.
Tec has previously lived with other dogs, so we feel in the correct setting, he could live around other dogs in the future. He can be very over-exited around dogs however, so owners will have to be confident enough to manage this.
It is important to note that Tec is not a suitable match for a typical family home. As friendly and fun as he is, Tec is a working breed who has specific behavioural requirements.
We reserve the right to remove a reserve at any stage of the adoption process if we believe it is in the best interest of the dog.
Tec has suffered from ‘happy tail’ here at the shelter which has led to a fracture at the end of his tail, however this is healing well. Tec has been castrated, vaccinated, flea and wormed.
Adopters should consider that previous medical conditions will now not be covered by insurance. Adopters are responsible for the on-going medical costs once the animal has been adopted.
